Introduction

This is about love, family, immigration, a couple wrongly deported out of the country and a family split up. Our family is comprised of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, Christians, Catholics, Agnostics and many other denominations. Some believe in closed borders, some believe in open borders. We do however, all agree that the situation with my Son Mark and his wife (my daughter-in-law) Sunny (Kaesun) is an injustice. If anyone knows anyone, who knows anyone, who can help - please pass this on. This story has affected hundreds of South Korean immigrants that thought they had come here legally. They lived here for decades, got jobs, got degrees, went to school, only to be deported from a country and life they love.

Emails From Young Suh - Another Member of The Group.

This is from one of the other Koreans who was involved in this group, he contacted us when he saw Sunny's story.

Hello Ms. Jeffry Elaine Douglas,

I actually decided to leave California at the end of October. I had acquired my bachelors degree and worked the summer to save some money. My mother stayed behind and I came here by myself. I figured it be a better decision than to live my life under the radar.

I'm sure you understand how much of an impact these circumstances can have on someone... basing their whole lives in one place, only to start over. How are you doing? Does your son come visit? How does he like Korea? I see a lot of Americans here actually. I'm sure he might have told you but there's a foreigners town with even Mexican food. I never tried for myself, but I sure miss steak burritos.

I finished my report about the case of the 275 and turned it into my school. I was able to receive an A in the class and on the paper. It sure seems like yesterday when I was sitting in California enjoying the weather. It is so cold out here, as if we're in Mt. Mammoth all the time.

I am trying to find a job as a teacher, but situations prove tough at the moment. Oh, I do have one good news though! The Korean military service dismissed me of duty! I had surgery for scoliosis when I was 15 and I guess that was enough reason to not go. Sure would have been stressful if I had to serve for a country that I just arrived at.

Hope you're doing well ma'am, and thank you for keeping in touch.
If you would like a copy of the paper I wrote, I wouldn't mind sending you one.

Hope your holidays were wonderful and have a happy new year!

Dear Ms.Jeffry Elaine Douglas

Excuse my informal introduction. I just stumbled upon your post on http://www.allgov.com/Agency/Bureau_of_Consular_Affairs and took an interest in your case.

My name is Young, a 23 year old student at UCSB. I am currently enrolled in a pro-seminar history class and writing my senior term paper on the exact case your daughter-in-law is involved in.

I too am one of the 275 Koreans that have been taken advantage of by the immigration brokers and Leland Sustaire.

First, I am very sorry to hear of what has happened to your daughter-in-law. I can only imagine what it must be like for you. I too am in the same dilemma as her, but fortunate for me, I have not yet been detained.

My attorney is the same Alex Park you mentioned in your post, but my mother actually deals with most of what is going on, and they both have kept me in the dark.

The pain and stress you mention... I too am going through it, and I do hope to make a difference through this term paper.

If it is not too much trouble, it would be great to hear of the aftermath since September 9th, when you posted on the Bureua of Consulur Affairs. I am very interested in your daughter-in-law's situation and I do PRAY for the best!

Any information you can provide would not only help with my research on my term paper, but also with my own status. And if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you for your time, and I do hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Young S

I just gave it a listen!
I'm very touched that you're still working very hard on spreading the word.

This in by itself has made a big difference in my life and stopped me from losing hope in people ^_^

Stay well Ms. Douglas~ and thank you!
