Introduction

This is about love, family, immigration, a couple wrongly deported out of the country and a family split up. Our family is comprised of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, Christians, Catholics, Agnostics and many other denominations. Some believe in closed borders, some believe in open borders. We do however, all agree that the situation with my Son Mark and his wife (my daughter-in-law) Sunny (Kaesun) is an injustice. If anyone knows anyone, who knows anyone, who can help - please pass this on. This story has affected hundreds of South Korean immigrants that thought they had come here legally. They lived here for decades, got jobs, got degrees, went to school, only to be deported from a country and life they love.

Letter to Speaker Boehner and Senator Rubio

May 6, 2012

Dear Speaker Boehner and Senator Rubio,
I am writing to you because I believe you should take care of this
injustice before you start on something like “The Dream Act”.
I am including our whole blog in each binder. After this letter I
am submitting to you a proposed “The 275 Law”. I think you can
probably pass this in about 30 minutes, seriously. This is a
bi-partisan issue.
Our true story:
My daughter-in-law Sunny came here when she was 10 years old,
with a Visa. She was here for 22 years. She married my son Mark
April 1, 2009.
There was a “Green Card Scam” which started in 1986. 2 Korean
brokers told adults of a group of 275 South Korean immigrants
if they paid a fee they would get them legal help to expedite
their green cards. Instead the brokers bribed an INS Supervisor
who gave the 275 people green cards. Most of the adults had met
the brokers at church.

The INS Supervisor received $500,000- through the brokers. He
finally felt guilty and turned himself in. Before turning himself in
he burned all the records.
Because he testified against the brokers (who did jail time), he
received a $7,500- fine, six months at a halfway house, and six
months home-confinement at his ranch in Tracy, Ca.  He was
never audited by the IRS for the $500,000- and received his full
pension.
The 275 South Koreans were told by the government they had
to prove their innocence which they couldn’t do because the
INS Supervisor burned the records.
Most of the South Koreans went to court but in the end were
given deportation orders.
The children of this group (including Sunny) are not at fault in
any way.
Sunny was in her last semester at San Jose State University
when she was picked up by ICE on 8/31/10, sent to a detention
center in Eloy, Arizona and deported almost a month later on

9/21/10. When she was deported she was told she could not
even try to return for 10 years.
You need to help rectify this injustice. My family and I always
thought there was justice in our country-nothing could be
further from the truth. Everyone I talk to regardless of their
political beliefs thinks this is an injustice.
I am sure there are plenty of children of this group who
have similar stories. One young man, Young Suh, whose
term paper is in the binder, came here at age 4. Last
summer he graduated from University of California
Santa Barbara. He had been given deportation orders so
he worked all summer and used the money to move to
South Korea because he was tired of looking over his
shoulder. He was here his whole life.
I do not pretend to be a lawyer but am proposing a law
with 2 parts, one for the children and one for the adults.
I have not received any replies from anyone. Please help.
Please don’t forget, these people came here with Visas.

 Sincerely,

Ms. Jeffry Douglas
