Introduction

This is about love, family, immigration, a couple wrongly deported out of the country and a family split up. Our family is comprised of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, Christians, Catholics, Agnostics and many other denominations. Some believe in closed borders, some believe in open borders. We do however, all agree that the situation with my Son Mark and his wife (my daughter-in-law) Sunny (Kaesun) is an injustice. If anyone knows anyone, who knows anyone, who can help - please pass this on. This story has affected hundreds of South Korean immigrants that thought they had come here legally. They lived here for decades, got jobs, got degrees, went to school, only to be deported from a country and life they love.

Letter to Darrell Issa

April 11, 2012                                                                                                                           1

Dear Congressman Issa,

Following this letter is a notorized statement by my Son Mark granting me permission
to contact whoever I deem appropriate.
I have copied our entire blog:  http://sunnyandmark.blogspot.com/
For the record I am anti-illegal immigration although it doesn’t really matter in this
situation. Everyone I have spoken to, regardless of political belief, thinks this is truly
an injustice. I believe this is a bi-partisan issue.
My daughter-in-law Sunny came here with a visa when she was 10 years old with
her Mother and Brother. There was a “Green Card Scam” where Korean brokers
approached adults-part of 275 South Koreans (some of them at church),telling them
they would get them legal help, for a fee, to expedite their green cards. Instead of
getting legal help the brokers bribed an INS Supervisor who gave the 275 South
Koreans green cards. In the end the INS Supervisor had received $500,000-.
Finally the INS Supervisor felt guilty and turned himself in. Since he ratted on the
Korean brokers he received a $7,500- fine, 6 months at a halfway house and 6
months home-confinement at his ranch in Tracy,Ca. He was never audited by the
IRS and received his full pension. He also had burned all the records regarding the
275 South Koreans previous to turning himself in. The government told the 275
South Koreans they had to prove their innocence, which they could not do since
the INS Supervisor had burned all the records. I have included 2 articles written
about this “Green Card Scam”.

My daughter-in-law Sunny was here for 22 years. In 2009 she married my son
Mark and has become a wonderful part of our family. She was in her last semester
at San Jose State University when she was picked up by ICE, sent to the detention
center in Eloy,Arizona and then deported almost a month later. This is truly an
injustice. She did not do anything wrong or illegal or criminal.
I am asking you to pretend she is your daughter-in-law and endlessly pursue
justice for her. I am sending this binder so you can share with others. Maybe you
can mention our case on the House floor, maybe you can contact news
organizations, anything to help Sunny. Sunny was told she could not even try to
return to the United States for 10 years and yet DHS is trying to give out “unlawful
presence waivers” to illegal immigrants.
Included in this binder is a paper written by Young Suh who is also part of the 275.
He came here when he was 4 years old, went to South Korea for a visit when he
Was 15, and when he arrived back in the U.S. was detained for a short while. They
took his green card away from him. That was the first time he heard anything about
the “Green Card Scam”. Last year he graduated from University of California at
Santa Barbara, worked all summer, was tired of looking over his shoulder and
then moved to South Korea. He was here his whole life.
Some people said they felt some of the adults of the 275 knew that giving the
Korean brokers money was wrong, however, I believe they were just very naïve.
Obviously the children had nothing to do with the situation and should not have
been given deportation orders, truly unjust.

I believe you are a Man who stands for justice, in fact one of my twitter friends
calls you “Elliot Ness” !  I would appreciate whatever you can do to rectify this
situation for Sunny. I think all of the children of #the275 should be able to
return to the country they grew up in, the U.S.A., which they obviously love.
Contact me anytime. I truly want to thank you for your time and hope you can
help us.
Sincerely,

Ms. Jeffry Douglas

my daughter-in-law Sunny Song Douglas. I am now sending

others, will rectify this injustice. I appreciate anything you
can do.

Ms. Jeffry Elaine Douglas
